De Hoop Collection - Vlei Cottages in De Hoop Nature Reserve

Vlei Cottages sit inside De Hoop Nature Reserve with views of the lake and gardens. Each cottage includes a kitchenette, a private bathroom, and a patio. Some units have two bedrooms and a small living area. The cottages are clean and comfortable, but no air conditioning or fans are provided - guests are advised to keep windows closed due to baboons.

The on-site Fig Tree restaurant serves lunch and dinner with a set three-course menu. Options include vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes. Breakfast is a buffet with continental and full English/Irish selections. The restaurant overlooks the reserve and offers South African wines. Guests also can grab a light lunch at Bites in Koppie Alleen near the beach.

The resort has two outdoor pools - one with a view and both with sun loungers. Activities include hiking, cycling, tennis (equipment provided), guided marine walks, bird walks, boat cruises on the vlei, and game drives. Guests can rent bicycles, use the outdoor fireplace and picnic area, or walk to the beach (15-20 minutes by car). Zebras, ostriches, and antelopes roam near the cottages. Southern right whales are visible from the shore in season (September-October).

The collection is located inside De Hoop Nature Reserve, about 30 km of gravel road from the nearest paved road. The drive is bumpy but passable for a family car in dry weather. The reserve is surrounded by fynbos, dunes, and the vlei. From the cottages, it's a 15-20 minute drive to Koppie Alleen beach, the main whale-watching spot. There is no public transport; guests need their own vehicle.

Free WiFi is available in public areas (not in rooms). Private parking is free on site. Daily housekeeping, laundry, ironing, and babysitting/child services can be arranged. The property also offers meeting/banquet facilities, BBQ facilities, and a picnic area. Staff at the front desk and restaurant are friendly and helpful. Invoicing and fire extinguishers are provided.
